Choosing The Right Plan

Are you or someone you know eligible for Medicare?  You may know just how confusing it can be to find the right plan. So many different terms, so many plans and plan options.  The good news is, we have answers. Let’s start with the basics.

Medicare Supplemental Policies (Medi-Gap)

Original Medicare doesn't cover all your health care costs. It wasn't designed to. Original Medicare only helps with the costs of health care. Some insurance companies offer plans to fill in the "gaps." These are called "Medicare Supplemental" plans or "Medigap" plans. If you have Original Medicare and you buy a Medigap policy, both plans will pay their share of Medicare-approved amounts for covered health care costs. Medigap plan premiums are generally higher than Medicare Advantage premiums. Other than the premium, the member does not pay coinsurance for Medicare covered services.

Medicare Advantage

Medigap policies are not the only choice for extra coverage. Coventry offers Medicare Advantage plans and Prescription Drug Plans that are approved by Medicare. These plans are less expensive than Supplemental plans, yet covers additional benefits not covered by Original Medicare. Annual check-ups, health screenings, vision, hearing, dental care and of course, prescription medications are included in many of our plans. Another benefit is that in certain cases these plans feature copays, not coinsurance, so you know up front just how much the services you receive will cost. And in many cases, we offer these additional benefits at no cost to you.

How Does a Medicare Advantage Plan Work?

It’s simple. You continue to pay your Medicare Part B premiums, because you are still covered by Medicare. The only difference between Original Medicare and Coventry Health Care Medicare Advantage plans is that you receive medical and/or prescription drug benefits from a private company instead of through the government.  When you receive services from providers or hospitals you use a Coventry member ID card—not a Medicare card—for your insurance coverage. Coventry Health Care plans can offer additional benefits that Original Medicare does not offer at competitive rates.

Coventry Health Care offers two kinds of Medicare coverage.

Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plans (MAPD):

These MAPD plans combine your Part A (hospital), Part B (medical) and Part D (prescription drug) coverage into one source of coverage. You can choose a plan that meets your needs, which includes many added benefits like dental, vision, hearing, and health club memberships at no additional cost.

AdvantraRx (PDP) - Prescription drug coverage:

AdvantraRx (PDP) helps take the worry out of paying for the medications you depend on. AdvantraRx (PDP) offers three plan options with low or no deductibles and low cost-sharing amounts.
